There’s a YouTuber I follow, her name is Tee, her channel is nappyheadedjojoba, and I freaking love her! She is smart, she is sassy, and her natural hair is to die for!! She is goals! Her channel is real; it makes me feel like I’m catching up with an old friend, and I’m cringing internally because we are making so much noise. I also follow her blog, you can check it out here. Now that I’m done gushing about her (I love her so much guys… okay, now I’m done!), let’s begin!
So nappyheadedjojoba has started a fitness challenge I decided to take up as well. It’s called the #SeptemberSHRED Health and Fitness challenge. It started on the 21st August, and will run till the 1st of October. Watch her video here to check out the rules. For those who don’t have bundles (he he he…), the rules are as follows:
1.) Drink half of your weight (after changing pounds to ounces) of water, daily. So, if you weigh 140 pounds, drink 70 ounces of water each day.
2.) 5 challenging workouts per week. You get 2 passes to work out only 4 days in a given week, during the challenge.
3.) No added sugar.
4.) You can have alcohol no more than one day per week, and no more than 3 cocktails on that day.
5.) Take “before” and “after” photos to track your progress and stay motivated after the challenge concludes!
Truth be told, I am struggling. I love sweet things, and I have been chewing sugar-free gum like a nicotine addict trying to quit smoking. I have concluded that sugar addiction is a thing!! Last weekend, i considered it a cheat day, and downed a whole swiss roll slice… (thank you Pemcol). I felt no guilt.
I have gotten it right somewhere though… exercise. I rely on YouTube to make a workout schedule for me, cause I do not have time to go to the gym… and I have weak ankles, so running is not an option. Here are a few channels I follow, I hope they will be as helpful to you as they are to me:
This man is crazy! He is crazy!!! I learnt about him from nappyheadedjojoba (she’s getting a lot of love today!) and decided to try out a 30-day beginner’s challenge of his last year. The 1st day I was huffing and puffing and wondering when the torture will end. I had only done the warm up…
You work HARD for that fist bump! It does not come easy!! I finally got to fist bump stage day 3 (I skipped some exercises because of my, erm, weak ankles)… the first two days, I paused the video and ran away! It does get easier the more you do it!!
Again, you work HARD for that workout complete!! The first time I did a workout, I chose a low impact one, and thought, “This’ll be easy.” It. Was. Not. I died many times. You then realise that 30 seconds is not 30 seconds when you are exercising… it is an entire lifetime!
They have over 500 workout videos covering strength training, cardio, HIIT, and even for those who get bored by doing the same exercise over and over.
This is Keaira LaShae’s fitness channel, and incorporates a lot of dancing in her workouts. I am not coordinated enough for her greatness, so I just stumble along. In the end however, I do have a great cardio exercise!! I do this one at the office, and helps me to not just sit on my derriere the entire day.
I “started” Pilates (“started” because I think I only did it for a month…) a few years ago, and I loved it. I felt like dying the first few times, but when I got the hang of it, it was great. I could feel a difference in my posture and everything. Now my slouchy self needs to continue, and I tend to rely on her for workouts.
